Illustration

Illustration is a very specific thing. Each illustrator I know has a very unique style that is true to who they are as an artist. We all have different a drawing process and ways that we approach a specific project. For many years I hid my art, I didn’t show it to anyone because I was so afraid of what others would think. Was it good enough? Would people tell me I had no talent? It was crippling and made from my own self doubt. One day I drew a flower on a napkin that I was actually proud of so I posted it. The response was overwhelming and I got a little more brave. Through the years it has slowly changed and I realize people enjoy my imperfect, organic, hand drawn style. and for that I am grateful.

When hiring me to create a custom illustration there are a few things you should know.

First, I hand drawn everything on paper with ink. Why? It’s my process. I don’t start with pencil to sketch I go straight to ink because that is how I taught myself. It takes me a little more time I realize but I like the process and I feel it gets me a cleaner drawing at the end of the day.

Secondly, I research everything. I come from a museum background and it’s in my nature. Does this mean you will get a perfectly illustrated botanical drawing? No, as you can see my work below isĀ  imperfect and that is the way I like it. However, there are always things I like to look at while drawing.

Third, there are many levels of ownership with it comes to hiring an illustrator. If you want to own it outright pricing is different than maybe licensing art for a specific amount of time. We can go over that in the consultation.

Last but not least do you like my style? If you love what you see below, thank you, I can’t wait to work with you. If you don’t like what you see that is 100% ok too, I completely understand. It is important that you like the style of the illustrator you are working with so please don’t hesitate to ask any questions!
